Dedicated to the memory of Tim

This site is a tribute to Tim, who was born in Henley-on-Thames on May 31st, 1972. Tim was taken from us very suddenly on March 31st, 2020. He is much loved by all his family, friends and acquaintances and will be sorely missed.

Due to the unusual times in which we live, the funeral service was unfortunately private.

However, when circumstances allow, it is our expectation to have a memorial service to celebrate his life, his humour and passions, his kindness and compassion.

Thoughts

I had invited Tim in April 2018 as a keynote speaker for a language teachers‘ meeting in Milan. At that time I was working for the Local Education Authority for Lombardy and had organised a seminar on the CEFR Companion Volume. I live in Bergamo and I picked Tim up at our airport. He spent the night at a B&B in my city. That evening I invited him to dinner in our wonderful High Town and the following day we took a coach together to the school in Milan where the seminar was held. I can’t believe he’s not with us any longer... Attilio Galimberti

Tim was always an accepting, generous and inspiring friend. Since meeting in Brighton in 2002, we became good friends and I was lucky enough for it to last 18 years. On March 30th, the day before he passed away, Tim texted me a quote from Tolkien ( below ), and it is things like this I will miss very much. Thank you old friend! Matt Go back?’ he thought. ‘No good at all! Go sideways? Impossible! Go forward? Only thing to do! On we go!’ So up he got, and trotted along with his little sword held in front of him and one hand feeling the wall, and his heart all of a patter and a pitter.’

When we heard about Tim it was such a shock, and the sadness still remains. We knew him as part of the Eaquals Assessment Group and had the great pleasure to work with him. He was such an expert, and it was always enriching to listen to him. But it is not only his expertise we will miss. What deeply impressed us was his willingness to share, his friendliness, his gentleness, his positive spirit. It is so sad not to have had more time to get to know him better. Finding out now that he loved singing and painting is so in line with the kind of man we thought he was. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. Belinda and Gerda
