I worked with Tim at Eurocentres for many years where he was the guardian and curator of Eurocentres’ intellectual property, which included the academic systems that formed the basis of the company’s DNA. This was a role that Tim took very seriously and approached with an academic rigour that inspired his colleagues. At the same time, he was able to combine this serious-mindedness with an endearing modesty, kindness and sense of humour. This combination earnt him great respect and admiration. I travelled with Tim many times to our Head Office in Zurich and over dinner Tim sometimes gave us glimpses into his private life. He obviously loved his wife and family dearly, loved his music, loved his friends, loved his life. I also discovered first-hand that he had a talent for performing musical numbers at karaoke (and I once spent an evening in a dimly-lit karaoke box with Tim when he wore sunglasses for the whole evening- his commitment to this look and nonchalance throughout was funny in a way that only he could pull off). I was very happy to hear that Tim had begun forging his own path as a consultant last year, as I knew his talents would be in high demand and he would be supported by the network he had built at Eurocentres, EAQUALS, the Council of Europe and beyond; and was looking forward to hearing his latest news (as well as some more musical numbers) at the next karaoke Eurocentres-reunion we were planning. I really can’t believe he is gone: I will miss him and remember him fondly.
