So shocked to hear the awful news about Tim. He was so young and such a kind and giving person – a gentleman in the full sense of that term. He was a true expert in his field and will be a huge loss to the language teaching community where he had made such a big contribution. I knew Tim through his connection with Eaquals. He never seemed to seek the limelight, but we quickly realised that he was someone who was always worth listening to. It was typical of Tim that we only heard about the award he received for the exceptional quality of his Master’s dissertation by a roundabout route. He instigated and led many valuable Eaquals projects and perhaps most impressively considering the demands of his day job, he was always prepared to pitch in as a volunteer in his free time to make sure the hard work actually got done. He shared generously, as true academics do, and cared deeply about his profession. As someone who knew Tim only in a professional context, it is quite surprising to learn he was a keen karaoke singer but now when I picture him, he does have a rather enigmatic smile. Had we but known, Eaquals conferences could have been even further enriched by Tim’s musical talents and sense of fun. Tim's life has been cut cruelly short, but his work as an international educator will have lasting impact. Heartfelt condolences to Tim’s wife, family and all who were close to him. Sarah Aitken
